Begin Your Journey into the World of Teaching … Get Your Certificate in Two Years at LSC-CyFair

CYPRESS — Do you want to make a difference in the lives of future generations?  Learn all you need to know about teacher certification this month at Lone Star College-CyFair.

Graduates of LSC-CyFair’s Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) program and Paraprofessional Cohort program have found rewarding careers in the classrooms throughout Houston, such as Joly Denis Giraldo Zuniga, a bilingual kindergarten teacher at Youens Elementary School in Alief Independent School District, who also teaches special education in the summer.

Last spring several alumni shared their rewarding experiences during the “Voices from Cy-Fair” Educator Speaker Series Event, including Molly Milillo, who was named “Teacher of the Year” after only her first year of teaching Gleason Elementary School students at Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. Other speakers included Stephen Posada, a sixth-grade science teacher at Hambrick Middle School in Aldine ISD and Maisa Gonzalez, who helps kindergarteners at Carter Elementary in Lamar Consolidated ISD start their academic journey.

“If you are interested in inspiring and motivating students like these alumni, join us at our information sessions to get information and learn the benefits of LSC-CyFair’s two-year degree program,” said LSC-CyFair Education Professor Fay Lee.

LSC-CyFair’s program satisfies the core requirements for baccalaureate programs at four-year institutions that lead to Texas teacher certification. It is the foundation to all other education courses.

“We strive to provide a rigorous curriculum that will engage students, will deepen thinking, and will prepare them for their transition into an Educator Preparatory Program,” said LSC-CyFair Education Professor Shamim Arastu.  “Our information sessions will help students plan and prepare for the next steps in their education journey.“

Faculty and advisers will be on hand to answer questions and attendees will have the opportunity to visit with representatives from various university Educator Preparatory Programs as well.

Register now to attend the 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Sept. 18 or the 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sept. 19 information session in the Conference Center at 9191 Barker Cypress. Light refreshments will be served.

Email Fay.D.Lee@LoneStar.edu or Shamim.J.Arastu@LoneStar.edu for event or program information or visit LoneStar.edu/teaching-aa or LoneStar.edu/cyfair-aat.
