18-wheeler leaves road to avoid stopped traffic, truck driver dies

HOCKLEY — An 18-wheeler transporting cars attempted to avoid stopped traffic on FM 2920 leading to the truck driver’s death, yesterday.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, on Aug. 5, 2019, at 11:40 a.m., Daniel L. Keilers was operating a 2010 International truck-tractor with an attached semi-trailer loaded with cars.

According to HCSO, Keilers was traveling westbound in the 26300 block of FM 2920, when he came upon stopped traffic and was unable to stop. Taking what the HCSO calls “faulty evasive action,” the truck-tractor struck a Chevrolet Tahoe that was pushed into a stopped Chevrolet Silverado.

Keilers’ vehicle left the roadway and rolled over. Due to injuries sustained, Keilers did not survive the crash.

The case remains open and under investigation by the Vehicular Crimes Division of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
