Bane ES student named winner in Go Texan decorating contest

CYPRESS TEXAS — Bane Elementary School third-grade student Brianna Zetina earned a blue ribbon and was selected as a winner of the Houston General Go Texan decorating contest by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR).

Of the roughly 6,500 entries from across Houston and surrounding areas, Zetina, who decorated a cowboy hat, was among the 200 winners. Her entry will join the other winning pieces on display during the rodeo at the NRG Center’s Hall B.

Bane third-grade teacher Victoria Valentin gave the opportunity to her students and Zetina took it, decorating the cowboy hat with red, blue and gold glitter. Valentin said she loved the hat when she saw it. Working with Shelita Balderas, Bane instructional specialist, Valentin was able to ensure the entry was turned in before the deadline.

In addition to receiving a blue ribbon designating Zetina as a contest winner, she also received a congratulatory letter and passes to the show and rodeo.

“I was extremely proud when I received and opened the envelope from HSLR,” Valentin said. “When Brianna found out she was a winner she was happy and excited, since she has never been to the Houston Rodeo.”
