She began as an English teacher at Jersey Village High School before being named an assistant principal and associate principal at Jersey Village. Harty was named the associate principal of Cypress Springs High School when it opened in 1997 before becoming principal of Cypress Springs in 2001. She was then named the founding principal of Cypress Lakes High School in 2007 before the school opened in 2008.
Harty was named Region 4 Secondary Principal of the Year for the 2004-2005 and 2009-2010 school years, respectively.
She received her Bachelor of English Language Arts from Vanderbilt University and her Master of Renaissance English from the University of Houston. Harty earned her principal certificate from Prairie View A&M University. Harty has participated in the Rice Educational Entrepreneurship Program, the Harvard Leadership Series and has served as the UIL Regional and Area Music Chairperson.
“The decision to transition is never easy,” Harty said. “I have been fortunate to have served the Jersey Village, Cypress Springs, and now, Cypress Lakes communities, and have worked with incredible students, teachers and parents at each school. My love for the campus is reflective of the energy that students bring every day and I appreciate having been a part of their journeys. I am excited to be able to continue to serve CFISD and secondary students in this new role, and look forward to supporting the best educators in Texas.”
