CYPRESS TEXAS — Kyla Mote, assistant principal at Matzke Elementary School, was named the new principal at Black Elementary School on May 8. Mote replaces Melissa LeDoux, who will retire in June.
Mote is currently in her 20th year in education, with her entire career being in CFISD. She began as a sixth-grade teacher at Hamilton Middle School and also taught at Bleyl Middle School and Ault Elementary School.
She spent two years as a secondary math curriculum specialist/coach before serving as an instructional specialist at Ault Elementary and Sampson Elementary School for two years each. Mote moved into administration in 2013 when she was named assistant principal at Matzke Elementary and has served in that role for six years.
Mote served as a summer school principal in 2018.
Mote received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Houston and her Master of Educational Leadership Administration from Lamar University.
“I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve as the new principal of Black Elementary,” Mote said. “I look forward to working with the amazing Bearkat staff, students, parents and community where together we will focus on educating the whole child: mind, body and spirit.”
