CFISD runners qualify for Cross Country State Championships

Nov. 3, 2022—The Cypress Bridgeland® High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams, as well as Cypress Springs High School junior Manny Vela and Cypress Ranch High School senior Thierry Garcon, qualified for the UIL Cross Country State Championships at the Region II-6A Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 24 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.

The Cypress Bridgeland® High School boys placed third at the regional championships with an overall score of 108 with senior Noah Willows leading the way finishing third overall (15:32.38). Also running for the Bears were sophomore Benjamin Montgomery (5th, 15:41.17), senior Alan Bonner (16th, 15:57.93), junior Hayden Price (38th, 16:33.83), freshman Kyle Pawlak (60th, 17:04.16), senior Josh Cremer (64th, 17:11.18) and junior Wyatt Conger (72nd, 17:22.52).

The Cypress Bridgeland® High School girls placed fourth as a team at the regional championships with an overall score of 144 points with senior Emily Ellis leading the Bears finishing seventh overall (18:44.52). Also running for the Bears were sophomore Kaitlyn Harless (32nd, 19:50.04), freshman Haley Hill (37th, 19:59.56), senior Sydney McFarland (42nd, 20:11.51), sophomore Lily Fawcett (50th, 20:23.18), freshman Susana Rawls (51st, 20:24.50) and junior Ariel Braley (59th, 20:49.86).

Cypress Springs runner Manny Vela and Cypress Ranch runner Thierry Garcon were the only two individual CFISD runners to qualify for the UIL Cross Country State Championships. Vela finished sixth overall (15:44.44) and Garcon finished 10th overall (15:49.78).

The UIL Cross Country State Championships will be held Nov. 4-5 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

XC State Qualifiers 4: Cypress Ranch High School senior Thierry Garcon placed 10th overall at the Region II-6A Cross Country Championships to advance to the UIL State Cross Country Championships set for Nov. 4-5 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. Garcon joins Vela as one of two individual CFISD runners to advance to the state meet.
