CYPRESS — The Cy-Fair American Federation of Teachers was granted a temporary restraining order to keep Cypress-Fairbanks ISD teachers out of school buildings until Sept. 7, 2020.
CFISD may appeal the judge’s decision. The next hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 28, 2020.
The Cypress News Review requested a statement from the district before the court hearing, a CFISD spokesperson stated: “The district does not comment on pending litigation.”
“A win for common sense!” said Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, in a tweet earlier tonight. “Making educators enter Cy-Fair schools now w/ the surge in COVID-19 cases in Harris Co, jeopardizes their health & safety plus their families & the children they serve. Now let’s make a plan to #reopensafely.”
Tonight a Harris Co. Judge granted the temporary restraining order we asked for. This is a victory for our Cy-Fair community and our efforts to #ProtectStudents #ProtectEducators and #reopensafely @rweingarten @AFTunion @TexasAFT @UnionmanTX
