Cy-Fair, Cy Ranch finish 1-2 at prestigious Madrigal Choir Festival

CYPRESS TEXAS — Cy-Fair High School’s Cy-Fair Singers won first place and were named the 2020 honor choir at the prestigious Madrigal & Chamber Choir Festival, held March 2 at the Coker United Methodist Church in San Antonio. The win put an exclamation mark on the event in which CFISD chamber ensembles claimed the top two spots and three others earned “Performance of Distinction” awards.

The Cy-Fair Singers were crowned first-place winners out of 38 competing ensembles. As the honor choir, the group will return to the Madrigal & Chamber Choir Festival in 2020, perform a 30-minute concert and present the top award to next year’s winner.

“Every year, excellent chamber choirs from all over Texas attend Madrigal Festival to compete to be named the top chamber choir in the state,” Cy-Fair High School Choir Director Nicholas Likos said. “Choirs go to compete, but more than that, they go to listen and learn from other great choirs.

“We were overwhelmed with joy when the results were announced. Winning Madrigal Festival puts Cy-Fair High School on the map across the choral landscape of Texas. We feel privileged to be a part of the great music-making that is happening in Cy-Fair ISD.”
