Cy-Fair firefighters battle backyard blaze

CYPRESS TEXAS — Cy-Fair VFD responded to a reported shed on fire threatening a structure just after 1 a.m., yesterday morning (April 16, 2019).

The first arriving crew reported heavy fire from a shed in the backyard – with fire spreading to the back of the home. A neighboring home was threatened by the blaze but was protected by the arriving crews, who worked to quickly extinguish the fire.

The homeowners escaped unhurt and said they were woken up by their barking dogs, who alerted them to the fire.

Unfortunately, one of the dogs got loose from its owners and ran back inside the home in the chaos of the scene. Firefighters pulled the dog from the smoke-filled home but their attempts to revive the dog were unsuccessful.

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for a foot injury and was later released.
