Cypress-area firefighters battle mulch blaze into early morning

The area burning was almost a football field in length, and several stories tall. Although there was a limited water supply in the area, firefighters worked with the business owners to isolate the fire using bulldozers to prevent spreading.

The containment effort went on for several hours and into the early morning hours of today.

No injuries were reported.

The Harris County Fire Marshal‘s Office worked with CFVFD investigators to determine the cause of the fire to be spontaneous combustion of a mulch pile.

The CFVFD was assisted by the Jersey Village, Cypress Creek and Northwest fire departments via mutual aid.
