CYPRESS — According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, an unknown white male bicyclist died after being struck by a pickup truck Saturday night on FM 529. According to police reports, at 8:50 p.m. on June 8, 2019, Dewayne Arkadie was operating a white Dodge Ram 2500 eastbound in the 16300 block of FM 529 — the intersection with Sommerall Drive.
The report states, “an unknown white male pedal cyclist, crossed the roadway from north to south and established himself in the right lane immediately prior to impact. The pedal cyclist failed to yield the right of way to vehicular travel. Arkadie struck the rear tire of the pedal cyclist with the front bumper of the Dodge.”
Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department crews responded and Life Flight assisted at the scene.
The cyclist was flown to Memorial Hermann Medical Center by Life Flight and pronounced deceased at 10:38 p.m.
The sheriff’s office charged and arrested Arkadie after he was found to be driving while intoxicated.
This crash remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
