Nov. 8, 2022—The Bridgeland® (https://www.cypressnewsreview.com/disclaimer/) High School girls’ and boys’ cross country teams, along with Cypress Ranch High School senior Thierry Garcon and Cypress Springs High School junior Manny Vela, competed at the UIL Cross Country State Championships on Nov. 4 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

The Bridgeland® (https://www.cypressnewsreview.com/disclaimer/) girls placed eighth overall at the state contest with an overall score of 235. The Bears were led by senior Emily Ellis (13th, 18:39.10), followed by sophomore Lily Fawcett (66th, 19:54.30), sophomore Kaitlyn Harless (99th, 20:27.90), freshman Haley Hill (100th, 20:30.00), senior Macie Gunn (105th, 20:35.80), senior Sydney McFarland (113th, 20:47.80) and freshman Susana Rawls (124th, 21:04.30).

The Bridgeland® (https://www.cypressnewsreview.com/disclaimer/) boys placed ninth overall at the state championship meet with an overall score of 220 points with sophomore Benjamin Montgomery leading the way finishing 22nd overall (16:14.20). Also running for the Bears were senior Noah Willows (36th, 16:24.50), senior Alan Bonner (49th, 16:33.30), freshman Kyle Pawlak (112th, 17:24.40), junior Hayden Price (114th, 17:26.90), junior Wyatt Conger (141st, 18:17.80) and senior Josh Cremer (142nd, 18:20.30).

In the 6A boys’ division, Garcon led all CFISD male runners by finishing 21st overall with a time of 16:14.00.

The 2022 state meet marked Vela’s second consecutive appearance at the UIL Cross Country State Championships, where he finished 72ndoverall with a time of 16:47.20.

“We were excited about the cross country season for the CFISD teams,” said Charles Ament, associate athletic director. “It was a very successful season to have two teams qualify for the UIL State Cross Country Meet along with two individuals. The coaches and athletes of Bridgeland® (https://www.cypressnewsreview.com/disclaimer/) High School, Cypress Springs and Cypress Ranch are to be commended for their devotion to continue to incrementally improve their performances throughout the season. Competing at the state level is always a great culminating event and will provide memories and experiences that will last a lifetime. Congratulations to all of the CFISD teams on another great season and representing the district in an exemplary way.”
