Cypress volleyball teams attack district play

CYPRESS — The Cy-Springs Panther and the Cy-Lakes Spartan volleyball teams both walked away from Tuesday’s (Aug. 28, 2018) district match at .500 in league play this season.
However, it was the Panthers who won in four games, 25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20.
Cy-Springs stands at 11-14 overall and 1-1 in District 14-6A, while the Spartans sit at 6-9 overall and 1-1 in league standings.

In what may have been the first head-to-head battle for the District 14-6A championship, newcomer CFISD HS #12 shocked the volleyball world by taking Cy-Ranch to five hard sets. However, the powerhouse Lady Mustangs pulled out the win, 26-28, 25-15, 20-25, 25-19, 15-12.
Cy-Ranch entered the week at the No. 8 slot in Vype’s Houston-area rankings, Monday. The Mustang team was previous picked as No. 10.
The magazine also picked Cy-Fair’s Bobcats as No. 17. Coach Donna Bennoti’s 700-club team was previously picked as No. 19.
The brand new Bears of CFISD HS #12, who were previously unranked enter the polls as the No. 18 team.
In District 14-6A, Tomball Memorial earned honorable mention status in the same poll.
