CYPRESS TEXAS — Students from Cy-Fair, Cypress Creek and Cypress Ranch high schools earned awards from the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) Teach Tomorrow Summit, held Feb. 28-March 2 in Allen.
Three Cy-Fair High School students claimed first-place honors in placed in four events:
- Phoebe Lightfoot – first place in Differentiated Instruction Lesson, Education Leadership Fundamentals Test and Project Visualize-Appreciation;
- Cassidy Willman – first place in Teacher Created Ideas; and
- Amanda Turpin – first place in Project Visualize-Appreciation.
In addition, Lightfoot was the recipient of a TAFE scholarship for her Differentiated Instruction Lesson presentation.

“It has been so inspiring to see the talent and the professionalism exhibited by all of our ‘Ready, Set, Teach!’ students year after year,” said Sue Silhanek, Cy-Fair education and training instructor. “As we approach a decade of success in the TAFE program, I continue to be in awe of the incredible creativity, fortitude and skills of these young men and women. I look forward to witnessing the future growth of the students and these exceptional programs.”
Five Cypress Creek High School students placed in three events, including two first-place finishes:
- Lathan Proffitt – first place in Interactive Bulletin Board: Secondary;
- Alejandra Jimenez – first place in Educational Leadership Fundamentals Test and second place in Interactive Bulletin Board: Elementary;
- Ravyn Johnson – second place in Educational Leadership Fundamentals Test and Chapter Yearbook; and
- Gia Quintero – second place in Chapter Yearbook; and
- Anh Nguyen – second place in Chapter Yearbook.
“All of their hard work and preparation really paid off,” said Christina Bramwell, Cypress Creek education and training instructor. “Our future educators are going places and I’m so proud of them. It warms my heart to see my students receiving awards for materials that they can use in their future careers. Seeing the smiles on their faces as their names are called and they walk across the stage to accept their awards makes it all worth it.”
Nine Cypress Springs High School students placed in four events, including five first-place finishes and a national qualifier:
- Emaly Aguilar –top-five finish in Storybook K-3 and third place in Educational Leadership Fundamentals Test;
- Sarah Dimas – second place in Educational Leadership Fundamentals Test;
- Ingris Duran – first place in Educational Leadership Fundamentals Test;
- Dalila Reyes – third place in Educational Leadership Fundamentals Test and Blue Ribbon for Teacher Created Materials;
- Juanita Hernandez – first place for Teacher Created Materials;
- Cinthia Sotelo – first place for Teacher Created Materials;
- Sharmaine Ford – first place for Bulletin Board; and
- Jossy Hernandez – first place for Bulletin Board.
In addition, Aguilar advanced to the Educator’s Rising National Conference, which will be June 22-25 in Dallas, in the Storybook K-3 category.
“Cypress Springs had a phenomenal performance at the TAFE State Conference,” said Rachel Sanders, Cypress Springs education and training instructor. “I am so proud to have a National Qualifier, but even more proud of the class, pride and dedication all of these young ladies demonstrated throughout the competition. This experience helped to further solidify the bond these students share and reinforced their passion for teaching.”
Thirteen Cypress Ranch High School students placed in five events:
- Krystin Hoza – first place in Portfolio;
- Kelly Bradford – first place in Educational Leadership Fundamentals Test;
- Lauren Turner – first place in Educational Leadership Fundamentals Test;
- Allison Weaver – first place in Project Visualize and second place in Chapter Yearbook;
- Kayla Quinlan – first place in Project Visualize and second place in Portfolio and Chapter Yearbook;
- Dy’mond Dooley – first place in Project Visualize;
- Angela Chapa – first place in Project Visualize;
- Ashlynn Martin – second place in Educational Leadership Fundamentals Test and Teacher Created Materials: Elementary;
- Elli Meredith – second place in Teacher Created Materials: Elementary;
- Peyton Hromcik – second place in Teacher Created Materials: Elementary;
- Lauren Wilkinson – second place in Educational Leadership Fundamentals Test;
- Megan Fedor – second place in Chapter Yearbook; and
- Reina Soto – third place in Educational Leadership Fundamentals Test.

“Competing in TAFE competitions is a unique and rewarding experience for all the students,” said Abby Webster Parsons, Cypress Ranch education and training instructor. “They will be able to say they competed in high school and learned more about the profession they are choosing. We need educators that are passionate and lifelong learners. The CFISD students represented our district with class, confidence and enthusiasm.”
