CYPRESS — Bring your family and friends for a dose of healthy fun at CyFit, set Saturday, Oct. 19 at Lone Star College-CyFair.
“This community day is full of free fun from a mascot dance competition and martial arts demonstrations to an obstacle course challenge and other favorites, such as sack races, bubble soccer and tug-o’-war,” said Tim Mousel, LSC-CyFair kinesiology faculty and CyFit coordinator.
Among other activities planned are Air o Sport, disc golf, a plyo jump off and tire flips. Participants can also tour the campus Fitness Center, hear Dr. Dian Ginsberg’s talk on healthy hot topics, as well as get health and posture screenings.
All CyFit events will be held from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. throughout the campus at 9191 Barker Cypress.
Thanks to Mousel’s initiative, LSC-CyFair was recognized in the Exercise is Medicine® On Campus program through the American College of Sports Medicine this past spring. Helping to encourage fitness, health and wellness, Mousel received proclamations naming October as Exercise is Medicine™ Month from Gov. Greg Abbott, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and LSC-CyFair President Dr. Seelpa Keshvala.
“Our wellness committee is committed to engaging our students, faculty and staff with ongoing opportunities to help make movement and choosing a healthy lifestyle a part of our daily campus culture,” said Mousel. “And we’re excited to have the Cy-Fair community join us at CyFit.”
With input from the committee’s student members, the college’s Recreational Sports Department have plans to host a Healthy Cooking Demo and a Health and Wellness Week this semester.
