Harmony plans for both in-person and online learning this fall

CYPRESS — The CEO of Harmony Public Schools announced that students in campuses, including the Harmony School of Discovery (6th – 12th grade) and Harmony Science Academy – Cypress (Kindergarten – 5th grade) will have the option to do online learning this fall.

Additionally, families are currently expected to have the option for traditional face-to-face learning, or blend that with online learning, as the situation with the COVID-19 coronavirus changes.

The Cypress News Review recently shared their 2020-2021 calendar (click to view).

Below is a message sent out on Friday, June 26, 2020, and then the Spanish version of the letter follows:

Dear Harmony Families,
As a parent, you no have doubt been asking the same question as most other families since campuses across the country were forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic:

What are the schools going to choose to do when they come back?

After weighing each of the options available and listening to your feedback, Harmony Public Schools has determined that the best choice for the 2020-21 school year is a flexible learning plan that allows each family to make its own choice for the new school year.

In short, families can choose to continue to learn online, send their child to campus to learn in-person, or alternate between the two as family situations or local COVID-19 conditions change. The choice is entirely up to each family.

Regardless of the learning location, families will be able to stay up-to-date with their student’s progress with our new, all-in-one learning management system Schoology. Through Schoology, students and families will have full access to instructional materials, assignments, grading, calendars, and parent messaging in one platform that follows them seamlessly from at-home to in-person learning.

Additionally, whether learning from home or learning from campus, students will receive the same safe, high-quality Harmony education your family has come to expect:

Families that choose at-home learning will have access to the same rigorous, academic environment that they have come to expect from their neighborhood Harmony campus, taught by teachers trained for educating and engaging students in a virtual environment.

Families who choose to send their students for in-person learning will find a safe and organized learning environment that they can feel comfortable sending their child to each day. This includes enhanced health and sanitary protocols, as well as possible adjustments to daily routines to help keep all of our students and team members as safe as possible.

All students will continue to receive the same full academic and support services from their teachers, counselors, and school leaders regardless of learning location, including our English-language learners and students receiving Special Education services.

While this flexible plan may be an uncommon approach, we firmly believe it is the right approach for families during these uncommon times.

We thank you for your continued support and feedback in helping Harmony Public Schools reach this decision for the 2020-2021 school year and looking forward to helping your child continue their educational journey … from wherever that may be.

Sincerely,

Fatih Ay

Cordialmente,

Fatih Ay
