Healthy Living Pays Off For LSC-CyFair Student

CYPRESS — Improving the well-being of others is a career goal for Lone Star College-CyFair’s Jade Griffin, who was awarded a National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) Healthy Living Grant.

The NSLS program is designed to help students develop confidence and self-awareness while learning leadership skills they will use to make an impact in the community. Part of the NSLS mission is “Building Leaders Who Make a Better World” and Griffin wants to do this as a business owner.

“I have always been passionate about fitness and health. I strive to push my athleticism to its maximum capacity in my workouts every day,” said Griffin. “I want to open my own gym so I can help many individuals with healthy living.”

The NSLS grant provides students working to be the healthiest version of themselves a financial helping hand in achieving their academic and career goals. Griffin, who enjoys CrossFit, rock climbing, and kayaking, is grateful to have received this assistance to pay for textbooks and other college expenses.

“We are so excited to hear that Jade is the recipient of this national grant,” said LSC-CyFair President Dr. Seelpa Keshvala. “Jade is setting an excellent example for others by striving to be the best version of herself and through her desire to help others live a healthy lifestyle – we applaud her for her efforts!”

A former LSC-CyFair Dual Credit student, Griffin continued her college education last fall with online classes due to the pandemic. Only in her second semester at LSC-CyFair, plans are to earn her associate degree in early 2022 and ultimately obtain a Master of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University.

“The pandemic has not directly affected my goals but instead, it has provided insight into the challenges businesses might face. This will prove helpful when I open my own business,” Griffin said.
