Highway 249 wreck leaves one child dead


HARRIS COUNTY — On Thursday, April 11, 2019, an adult female was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer in the 16200 block of SH 249.

According to police reports, the Chevrolet became disabled and stopped in the right southbound lane. Taya Chevallier was operating a 2015 Infinity Q50 southbound in the 16200 block of SH 249 in the right lane behind the Chevrolet.

According to police, the Infinity failed to control speed striking the rear end of the Chevrolet.

All occupants of both vehicles were taken to a nearby hospital. The back left passenger of the Chevrolet, who was a juvenile, was taken by Life Flight from a nearby hospital to Texas Children’s Hospital.

While at Texas Children’s Hospital, the juvenile was pronounced deceased.

According to the law enforcement agency, Chevallier exhibited signs of intoxication while on scene. An investigation into her state of impairment is ongoing.

This crash is being investigated by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
