Kitchen Short Cuts, Kindness Crafts, Colombian Culture Among October L.I.F.E. Programs


CYPRESS — Don’t miss kitchen short cuts, acts of kindness crafts, Colombian cooking and culture and more at Lone Star College-CyFair’s October workshops.

The free Learning, Inspiration, Friendship and Enrichment (L.I.F.E.) programs are held Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the library (LRNC room 131 unless otherwise noted) at 9191 Barker Cypress.

• October 3 — Short-Cut Cooking with Missy Dixon

Ever hear of an instant pot? Find out about this tool and other time-saving techniques in your kitchen.

• October 10 — East Texas Memories

Our Gulf Coast Reads title is Bluebird, Bluebird by Attica Locke. It is a murder mystery that takes place in East Texas with an African-American Texas Ranger. Learn some facts and folkways of this land of water and trees and squirrels with Jean Gordon and Freddye Kelly.

• October 17 — Random Acts of Kindness Rocks

Artist and librarian Krissy Conn leads us in this kindness craft using rocks and uplifting messages. Bring your gratitudes.

• October 24 — Colombian Arepas and Empanadas

Mi Pueblita’s restaurateur Sara Velasquez tells us about these signature Colombian dishes and their accompaniments. Expand your international food repertoire. Samples will be served.

• October 31 — Mary Shelley and the Legacy of Frankenstein

Let’s get literary with LSC-CyFair English professor Denise Millstein and rediscover this classic and the real-life gothic story behind its creation. Millstein also reveals how the story has been “pop cultured” over the years.
