CYPRESS — Lone Star College has partnered with CSL Esports to launch esports tournament services through LSC student activities. Esports are events that include organized, multiplayer video game competitions between individual players or teams.
“The world of esports continues to grow by leaps and bounds,” said Quentin Wright, Ed.D., LSC-Houston North president. “This collaboration is a great way to keep Lone Star College students connected to each other, especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The Regular Season will consist of several weeks of round robin play, with each team playing up to two weekly matches against other teams in the league. The Playoffs will consist of one online tournament, per league, open exclusively to the teams that placed highest during the Regular Season. The Playoffs will determine the final results of the league.

“We are excited to formally launch CSL Esports at a time when colleges and universities can most use support from their partners,” said Wim Stocks, CSL CEO. “Our experience supporting esports development for all four major professional leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL), puts us in a unique position to drive this new wave of collegiate esports.”
Registration starts Sept. 16 and ends Oct. 4. Matches start Oct. 14 with playoffs beginning Nov. 18 and the LSC Championship taking place Dec. 1. Visit LoneStar.edu/esports for more information on how to get your game on.
CSL Esports has over 50 student activation events currently taking place as part of their pre-launch activity. These schools include LSU, Michigan, Penn State, Texas, UCLA, USC, UNLV, Colorado, and Washington.
LSC held an esports Master Class in March 2020 which came about through the encouragement and collaboration with U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. The class was led by Dr. Marc Williams, CEO of Williams Communications, LLC. who has lectured at some of the top universities in the country and is co-founder of one of the first esports business degree specializations.
“Lone Star College will begin offering a certificate and degree in esports management in spring 2021,” said Wright. “This esports partnership is to engage our students both academically and socially in the burgeoning field of esports.”
