LSC-CyFair Student Artist Chosen to Showcase Passion at 50th Bayou City Art Festival
CYPRESS, Texas (Sept. 19, 2022) As one of six artists chosen for the inaugural Collegiate Art Collective at the 50th Annual Bayou City Art Festival in October, Lone Star College-CyFair’s Vicky Suarez is one step closer to reaching her dream of having her first solo exhibition.
“I am very proud to represent LSC-CyFair at this art festival,” said Suarez, who has won multiple awards, even “Best in Show”, in several student exhibitions in the college’s Bosque Gallery. “This opportunity takes me out of my comfort zone, but it is an opportunity to advance and grow as an artist.”
The festival’s new and unique exhibition features one-of-a-kind artwork from Houston area college art students. Participating in one of the top juried art festivals in the country, these six top college visual artists will also have the opportunity to meet with potential art collectors and buyers.
With a goal of owning an art studio, Suarez said “I would love to inspire other students to dream big. Everything is possible with hard work and perseverance.”
In addition to showcasing her unique artwork, which often reflects her love of nature and animals, in LSC-CyFair’s student showcases, Suarez created a sculpture as a memorial tribute for an LSC-CyFair professor earlier this year and is involved in a public art project to be installed on the college campus by Spring 2023.
For the Bayou City Art Festival in downtown Houston Oct. 8 – Oct. 9, Suarez said she plans to produce artwork in pastel, ceramic and some ceramics over encaustic panels, with at least three pieces in each medium.
“Typically, my pieces are very whimsical and made with the intention of transmitting happiness and joy; but, in the end, the viewer is the one who decides,” she said.
