HARRIS COUNTY — A single vehicle collision ended with one dead and another going to a hospital with severe injuries this morning.
According to police reports, Juan M. Ramos and his passenger were traveling eastbound in the inside lane of the 26800 block of US Hwy 290, service road.
Ramos lost control of the vehicle, a blue 2017 Chevrolet Malibu, and entered the median between the freeway and the service road at approximately 6 a.m. this morning (Sept. 16, 2018).
With no braking input, the vehicle struck the concrete retaining wall and continued to travel at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then struck a concrete pillar, that holds the elevated portion of the eastbound exit ramp for SH 99, head on. The vehicle burst into flames and engulfed the vehicle.
The passenger was able to escape the vehicle with severe injuries.
Ramos was pinned inside, due to damage, and was unable to escape the vehicle. Ramos was pronounced deceased on scene.
The passenger was taken to a local hospital.
The case remains open pending investigation by the Vehicular Crimes Division of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
