CYPRESS TEXAS — Two CFISD students who were confirmed as finalists and 15 who were confirmed as semifinalists in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program were honored at a National Merit recognition program at the Berry Center on Feb. 25 – along with Commended students and National Hispanic scholars.
Both National Merit finalists are from Cypress Falls High School: Chloe Baba and Anish Ganti.
National Merit semifinalists from Cy-Fair High School are: Stephanie Pickrell, Makenzie Smartt and Tate Ward.
National Merit semifinalists from Cypress Creek High School are: Trevor Leon and Ethan Paugh.
Cypress Lakes High School’s National Merit semifinalist is Matthew Le.
National Merit semifinalists from Cypress Ranch High School are: Emilyn Busby and Kushal Vajrala.
National Merit semifinalists from Cypress Woods High School are: Rebecca Lee and Samuel Torres.
National Merit semifinalists from Jersey Village High School are: Samuel Goehring and Victor Xia.
National Merit semifinalists from Langham Creek High School are: Rishi Kommalapati, Dylan Nguyen and An Tran.

NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The 17 semifinalists were among the approximately 16,000 throughout the U.S. selected by officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Finalists advance to have the opportunity to win one of approximately 7,500 Merit Scholarship awards, while roughly 1,100 outstanding participants who are not finalists are eligible for special scholarships. Semifinalists placed among the top 1 percent and Commended Students placed among the top 3 percent of about 1.6 million students who entered the Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) during their junior year. CFISD has 75 total Commended Students.

Cypress Ranch High School’s 16 Commended students are: Isha Chakraborty, Max Fondren, Caitlin Grogan, Anushka Gupta, Anhthy Ho, Hanna Lewis, Ryan Loucaides, Divya Louis, Tyler Marks, Ian Matthews, Alyvia McEwen, Joshua Miller, Natalie Pantuso, Diego Rodriguez, Clayton Sanders and Vibha Sheshadri.

Jersey Village High School’s eight Commended students are: Kevin Cao, Ashley Duong, Lars Flores, Esther Hong, Monxell Mariano, Lorenzo Martinez, Nathan Taheri and Khoa Vu.
Langham Creek High School’s nine Commended students are: Piper Armstrong, Georgina Bermudez, Brendan Gallamore, Anh Nguyen, Haley Samuelsen, Daniel Sauceda, Grace Steed, Vi Vo and Michael Welsh.
THE NATIONAL HISPANIC RECOGNITION PROGRAM
The National Hispanic Recognition Program provides national recognition of the exceptional academic achievements of Hispanic high school seniors and identifies them for postsecondary institutions. A total of 54 Hispanic Scholars have been recognized as Scholars by the College Board’s National Recognition Program.
They are among a select group of 5,000 of the highest-scoring students from more than 250,000 Hispanic/Latino high school juniors who took the PSAT/NMSQT.
From Cy-Fair High School, three students were named Hispanic Scholars: Keyna Barahona, Maya Diaz and Paola Najera.
Three Cypress Creek High School students were named Hispanic Scholars: Tessa De La Fuente, George Mar and Alejandro Vasquez.
From Cypress Falls High School, six students earned Hispanic Scholar designation: Catherine Arnold, Giselle Bautista, Tirth Bhakta, Kaitlyn Falke, Nadia Rodriguez and Charles Torres.
Three Cypress Lakes High School students were named Hispanic Scholars: Allison Garza, Allen Hernandez and Devin Townson.
From Cypress Ranch High School, eight students were named Hispanic Scholars: Alejandra Baquerizo, Victoria Botello, Daniella Conner, Chelsea Laughrun, Cesar Padron, Krysten Rhodes, Jared Swift and Lauren Smart.
Five Cypress Ridge High School students earned Hispanic Scholar designation: Alton Cunningham, Anna Dos Santos-Becker, Hailey Kaplan, Rebecca Ramos and Jay Trevino.
From Cypress Springs High School, two students were named Hispanic Scholars: Nathalie Marquez and Fernanda Varela.
Nine Cypress Woods High School students earned Hispanic Scholar designation: Sebastian Aguirre, Aeriana Cartagena, Claudia Covington, Clara Hoelscher, Fernando Mercado, Christian Nunez, Ryan O’Leary, Lilia Perez Gonzalez and Samuel Torres.
From Jersey Village High School, eight students were named Hispanic Scholars: Lino Alanis-Ocampo, Sofia Arrazola, Juliana Estrada-Arias, Lorenzo Martinez, Uriel Perez, Ruben Romero, Jacie Salas and Ted Villarreal.
Seven Langham Creek High School students were named Hispanic Scholars: Alec Francis, Georgina Bermudez, Canaan Kelley, Michael Menjivar, Abraham Miranda, Matthew Richardson and Daniel Sauceda.
