CYPRESS TEXAS — National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), is being celebrated the week of Feb. 4-8, 2019, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems.
The theme of this year’s National School Counseling Week is “School Counselors: Providing Lessons for Life.” The week honoring school counselors provides recognition for school counselors who have a tremendous impact in helping students achieve success and plans for a career. National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February.
CFISD has 107 high school, 54 middle school, 86 elementary school counselors, and itinerant counselor. The district also employs three special campus counselors, 14 youth service specialist/social workers, one licensed chemical dependency counselor and four licensed professional counselors that serve all grade levels.
Franklin Sampson, CFISD director of guidance and counseling, congratulated all district counselors for helping the more than 116,000 students prepare for the world around them.
“Counselors function as ‘the heart’ of the school bringing warmth, understanding and empathy to all who cross their paths,” Sampson said. “I personally believe that the counselors in CFISD are a major component to the present and future success of our students.”
