Precinct 4 nab evading pair linked to car burglaries

HARRIS COUNTY — According to police reports, on February 3, 2019, deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1300 block of West Richey Road.

The driver failed to stop, leading deputies on a brief pursuit.

Constable Deputies were able to stop the vehicle in the 800 block of Sun Prairie. The driver was detained and identified as a juvenile. The passenger, later identified as Augustus Harris, quickly exited the vehicle and fled from deputies on foot. Deputies gave chase and were able to apprehend him at his residence where he was found to have thrown a stolen handgun in his closet.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle they were driving was stolen and both suspects were linked to numerous car burglaries that were committed the night before.

“Augustus Harris was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Evading and Violation of a Protection Order,” said Herman. “His bond was set at $4,000.00 out of County Court 16. The juvenile was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center, charged with Evading in a Motor Vehicle. The case is still under investigation pending additional charges.”
