Pregnant woman shot by two men, Deputies make arrests

HARRIS COUNTY — Violent Crimes investigators have charged two men with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after wounding a 20-year-old pregnant woman earlier in the month.

According to police reports, on Thursday, March 14, 2019, deputies were dispatched to an in progress call in the 15300 block of Ella Blvd and Barren Springs drive. When deputies arrived they found the woman with multiple gunshot wounds lying in front of a bus stop.

The victim is 36 weeks pregnant and was transported to a local hospital.

She is in good condition, and doctor’s say the baby’s heath is excellent.

The men, Kwan Tayes (DOB 03/16/98) and Nickolaus Collins (DOB 04/16/99) had been previously arguing with a group of men at a business located behind the bus stop.

That evening at around 9:45 p.m., the two men drove down Ella Blvd and discharged a handgun at the business and as the woman tried to flee, she was struck by gunfire.

Yesterday, Monday March 18, information was received on the whereabouts of Tayes and Collins, and they were arrested by members of the Violent Crimes Task Force at a residence in the Aldine Mail Route area.

Both men, who are brothers, are being held on a no bond in the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility awaiting arraignment.
