Presidential debates. Campaign ads and rallies. And news conferences help us learn more about the two main candidates for U.S. president.
For farmers and ranchers, it’s never certain these formats will address specific issues important to agriculture.
A presidential candidate questionnaire conducted by the American Farm Bureau Federation aims to help.
For the past 40 years, Farm Bureau has asked presidential candidates to provide responses to issues likely to impact and affect farmers and ranchers and rural communities in the next four years.
Both President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden have provided their answers. The responses are unedited, and the responses are presented in the same style they were provided.
There are 12 issue topics in the questionnaire. The topics range from food system resiliency to regulatory reform to rural life and health, with other issues such as energy and biotechnology in between.
The questionnaire is unique. You can read directly from the candidates on their policy positions and direction for our country.
That’s valuable information as America’s farmers and ranchers cast their ballot.
The preceding commentary is brought to you by Texas Farm Bureau, the “Voice of Texas Agriculture.” Called “Your Texas Agriculture Minute,” TFB will issue thought-provoking editorials each week—via print and audio—to spark understanding of agriculture in the Lone Star State and its impact on each and every Texan.
