CYPRESS / NORTH KATY — This past Friday night and Saturday morning were a wild and dangerous time as a Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot when responding to a domestic disturbance in the southernmost reaches of CFISD’s attendance zone that reaches into the unincorporated area of Harris County, which the U.S. Post Office classifies as “Katy.”

Here’s the official timeline from the sheriff’s office. Editor’s note: You can read the original — and updated — article we posted as the situation played out at this link.

On Friday, June 14, 2019, at approximately 11 p.m., HCSO District 4 patrol units were dispatched to a domestic disturbance call in the 19600 block of Plantation Tree Court.

Upon arriving, a deputy approached a male suspect inside an open garage at the dispatched address. The deputy observed that the suspect was armed with a pistol and ordered the suspect to put the weapon down. The suspect discharged the weapon at the deputy, striking him once in the lower torso.

A second deputy arrived and exchanged gunfire with the suspect. The suspect fled the scene on foot.

The suspect was not shot. The second deputy was not injured. The primary deputy was transported to an area hospital and was in stable condition. The injured deputy has been with the HCSO for two years.

The following morning, the suspect was located approximately one mile from the original scene. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Brady Joseph Ray.

Police say Ray was estranged from his wife and having difficulty dealing with their recent divorce. She called 9-1-1 when she arrived home and found that Ray had broken into her house.

Ray was charged with Aggravated Assault – Serious Bodily Injury, Aggravated Assault on Peace Officer and Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Assault. He is currently in the custody of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for said offenses.
