Students win awards at TAFE regionals, advance to state competition

CYPRESS — Students from Cypress Creek, Cypress Falls, Cy-Fair, Cypress Ranch and Cypress Springs high schools attended the annual Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) Region 4 North competition at Cypress Ranch on Dec. 1, earning several awards.

A total of 58 students from the five schools qualified for the TAFE 35th annual Teach Tomorrow Summit, to be held Feb. 28, 2019 through March 1, 2019, at the Delta Hotels Dallas Allen & Watters Creek Convention Center in Allen.

This was the first time the Region 4 conference and competition was hosted by CFISD.

Twenty-three Cypress Ranch students, led by sponsor Abby Parsons, attended the regional competition, with 16 qualifying for state competition:

Sixteen Cypress Ranch High School students competed at the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) regional competition, held Dec. 1 at Cypress Ranch, and qualified for state competition.

  • Krystin Hoza – Bulletin Board: Elementary and Portfolio;
  • Peyton Hromcik – Teacher Created Materials: Elementary;
  • Rebecca John – ELF Test;
  • Ashlynn Martin – ELF Test and Teacher Created Materials: Elementary;
  • Abbie McGee – ELF Test, Exploring Careers: Administration and Teacher Created Materials: Elementary;
  • Elli Meredith – Teacher Created Materials: Elementary;
  • Bailey Montgomery – ELF Test;
  • Kayla Quinlan – Portfolio, Project Visualize: Appreciation and Scrapbook;
  • Reina Soto – Professional Development and ELF Test;
  • Lauren Turner – ELF Test and Bulletin Board: Elementary;
  • Allison Weaver – Project Visualize: Appreciation and Scrapbook;
  • Laura Wilkinson – Lesson Planning and Delivery: Humanities and ELF Test; and
  • Audrey Zlatich – Project Visualize: Service and Scrapbook.

  • Juanita Hernandez – ELF Test and Teacher Created Materials (Team);
  • Jossy Hernandez – Bulletin Board;
  • Dalila Reyes – ELF Test and Teacher Created Materials (Individual);
  • Karla Rojas – ELF Test and Lesson Planning & Delivery: STEM; and
  • Cinthia Sotelo – ELF Test, Teacher Created Materials (Team), and Job Interview.

Six Cypress Falls students, led by sponsor Kathy Skehan, attended the regional competition, with all six qualifying for state:

Seventeen Cy-Fair students, led by sponsor Sue Silhanek, attended the regional competition, with all 17 moving on to state competition:
