CYPRESS — Drop in this June at Lone Star College-CyFair for summer reading picks, an aquatic talk, a Freedmen’s Town history lesson and an easy, no experience needed, craft project.
The free Learning, Inspiration, Friendship and Enrichment (L.I.F.E.) programs are held Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the library (LRNC room 131 unless otherwise noted) at 9191 Barker Cypress.
- June 5 — Blue Willow Book Shop Summer Reading
Book shop owner Valerie Koehler gives us her own spin on what to read this summer from mysteries to romance to nonfiction. Door prizes!
- June 12 — The Secret World of Lakes
Still waters run deep here at LSC-CyFair. What lies beneath Central Lake? Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve’s naturalist, Rose Holmes, demonstrates where our water comes from and how scientists test lake water for oxygen, impurities, and aquatic life. Meet in 131 for an overview and then we will head over to the amphitheater by the lake.
- June 19 — Emancipation Day! Freedmen’s Town Houston
Professor Tomiko Meeks from Texas Southern University helps us celebrate Juneteenth with a history of Freedmen’s Town, Houston’s Fourth Ward.
- June 26 — How to Crochet with Laurie Bayern
Crochet a flower book mark using three simple stitches. Absolutely no experience necessary!
