U-turn wreck turns deadly on FM 1960

CYPRESS — According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, October 11, 2020, at approximately 10:25 p.m., Jonathan Davis was operating a blue 2020 Kia Niro westbound, in the outside lane, of the 4700 block of FM 1960.

Pershella Howard was seated in the front right passenger’s seat. Jamicah Phipps was operating a white 2012 International ProStar Eagle, and pulling a white MPW International Water trailer, eastbound in the 4700 block of FM 1960. Phipps attempted to make a U-turn in the roadway, in order to position the truck and trailer in the outside shoulder, in front of the business located at 4701 FM 1960, where he intended on dropping the truck and trailer off.

As Phipps was in the process of making the U-turn, the Kia struck the passenger’s side of the trailer and went completely underneath it. The Kia then exited the roadway, to the north, and struck the wrought iron fence that surrounded the business. Davis and Howard were found on scene with no signs of life.

The HCSO investigator said that during the course of the on scene investigation, they determined the Kia did not have its headlights illuminated at the time of the crash. Phipps remained on scene, exhibited no signs of impairment, and was cooperative during the investigation. This case remains open and is under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
