CYPRESS — The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported the death of a Hispanic man on FM 529 in the Cypress area, Sunday morning.

According to the HCSO, at approximately 3 a.m., Aug. 18, 2019, a previously unknown Hispanic male — who has been identified as Marco Gastelum since our original post — was operating a gold 2012 Ford Escape westbound in the 12600 block of FM 529, at a high rate of speed.

The police report states the driver failed to drive in a single lane, exited the roadway, and struck a curb on the north side of the roadway. The vehicle continued traveling westbound in a ditch on the north side of the roadway and struck a utility pole. After striking a utility pole, the Ford rolled over and the driver was ejected.

The driver was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, via Life Flight, in critical condition. On Sunday, August 18, 2019, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the driver was found to have no signs of life at 10:30 a.m. while a patient at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

This case remains open and is under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
