Waller County case gains win for individual freedom in Texas Supreme Court

AUSTIN – On Friday the Texas Supreme Court denied the petition for review by Waller County in the case Waller County v. Holcomb. The decision to deny review upheld the Court of Appeals ruling that made it clear that the county did not have jurisdiction to sue Terry Holcomb Sr. for submitting a letter requesting the county comply with Texas’ carry laws.

Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey commented:

“The decision to deny review by the Texas Supreme Court today is a victory for individual freedoms and the First Amendment. Waller County attempted to stifle the rights of Texans when the county refused to obey Texas’ carry laws and then made it worse by suing when confronted. We encourage Texans to speak out against the government when it infringes upon our rights and we applaud Mr. Holcomb for doing so in this case.”
