Windfern chili cook-off returns from 1-year hiatus, raises over $3,500

CYPRESS TEXAS — Windfern High School generated just over $3,500 from its annual Chili Cook-off and Silent Auction on Feb. 15, which raises money for college scholarships, student event funds and school improvement projects.

The silent auction was supported by campus and district staff members, as well as community partners. Their generous donations and items such as gift baskets, tickets and other prize packs helped strengthen the event’s success.

Just Chilin’ won three of the four awards during the Windfern High School annual Chili Cook-off and Silent Auction on Feb. 15. The team, which included staff members Ben Abrams, Sue Blakely, Jennifer Meers, Alex McKinnon, Sean Ocker, Amanda Fulton, Debbie Huntsinger and Carl Van Overdam, won best chili and best décor in the people’s choice awards and best chili in the judge’s choice awards.

Windfern staff members came together to form teams to compete in the chili cook-off, with each creating a signature chili recipe and team identity to add to the competition. In addition to the chili, each team also decorated a booth and wore costumes to carry the team’s theme.

The competing teams were: The Bomb, Slap Yo Nana Chili, Wild Things, Red Hot Chili Cookers, Just Chilin’ and Tom Sawyer’s White Wash Crew.
